Aquatic Education Programs: It’s great to have fun in the water, and the YMCA can help you and your children learn how to do so safely.
Our unique aquatic education programs:
• are about much more than just learning to swim
• combine water safety education and skill development with personal development
• provide opportunities for students to build a healthy body, mind and spirit
• place an emphasis on simulating open-water environments
• are available to everyone from the age of six months – to 99 years!
• are high quality and affordable
• are designed to enhance community awareness about the risk of drowning
YMCA aquatic education teachers and lifeguards
All of our teachers are fully qualified with current AUSTSWIM and CPR certification.
YMCA Lifeguards are on site during all programs, however they do not replace parental/carer supervision of children. Parents must actively supervise children at all times and be prepared to enter the water.
Aquatic education for people with special needs
The YMCA AquaSafe program offers classes for participants who are:
- Intellectually and/or physically challenged, disabled or handicapped
- Older adults
- Assessed as requiring a special needs program

Classes may take the following form:
- One-to-one classes
- A specifically designed group class with a maximum ratio of one teacher to four participants
- As part of a ‘mainstream’ group class with a carer to assist, under direction from an aquatic education teacher.
